Our vacation began as we traveled south on I-75 from Atlanta to
Lake City Fl. exit at Hwy 47 go south and follow the signs. It should
take about 7 Hrs. from Atlanta., but anyway we arrived at the Ginnie Spring
resort area to find it was more popular then we had expected. Mike
Moser had been there before but it had been at least 10 yrs. and things
had changed a lot. Fortunately there had been a few cancellations so
we were able to get a site with water and Elec. but at a cost of $46.00
a night and for a trip we planed to do low budget this was not a good
start so we just stayed for one night. After setting camp we walked
down to the Devils Eye Spring and took a Midnight swim it was great
fun. The next morning we packed the camper and took the boat to the
river. I had brought a 14 ft Jon boat with a 15 horse motor and was
carrying the boat on the top of the camper. We found a nice spot to put
the boat in and we hit the river. WOW! what a blast we boated up the
river to the last spring, there were tons of people on the river canoeing
and tubbing the water is beautiful but the eel grass plays havoc on the
motor I was always stopping to pull grass out of the prop. We boated
for several hours until Mike had a sugar fit he is diabetic and when
his sugar gets to low he kind of wigs out and on the river that day
it was a bad one so I pulled over at Rum Island where some people
were picnicking and got a couple of slices of bread which helped him
out. After swimming in Rum Island Springs for a while we headed back
to the car for some lunch. We decided to go ahead and pull the boat
and after doing so we went back for another swim in the Devils Eye
and Ear Spring and also in little Devil Spring. Well it was getting late
so we decided it was time to go find a new camp site up near
Ichetucknee Springs our next stop.
