We arrived at Rainbow
Springs S.P. at about lunch on the 3rd so after getting a bite
to
eat we went into the park for a swim. Now I had been to the park
about 2 yrs ago but
was still wowed by its beauty. the park has a nice swim area you
can picnic,canoe, or
just relax we picked swim. The park was once a private attraction
in the 50's and 60's
but there was just not enough interest to keep it in business
so the state bought it and
made it a preserve and I applauded them on doing so the spring
creates a huge river
called the Rainbow river that runs about 6 miles to the Withlacoochee
River.
The Rainbow River is crystal clear full of fish, many birds stalk
these waters and
there are even a couple of families of River Otters. The shores
are lined with towering
Cypress Trees and elaborately landscaped homes. Mike, the boys
and I after swimming
in the park went to the Dunnellon city park and put the boat in
the Withlacoochee River
traveling up river we came to the mouth of the Rainbow River and
boated all the way
up it almost to the head of the river it was a beautiful trip
,but all good things have to
come to an end and the boys were getting tired of being in the
boat. Besides we still had
to get to Kissimmee and setup camp. So we said goodbye to the
nature part of our
vacation and now it's off to Disney World.
